Washington & Oregon Coast

Gabby

Well it has been over a month, so I'm going to try to condense these next few posts for more easy reading!

After leaving Olympic we drove down HWY 101, stopping along the way at a couple fun harvest host (18Aug-19Aug):

  • Willapa Brewing Co. - we got some beers & pizza after a day of chores

  • Cranguyma Farms - we ended up picking 3lbs of fresh amazing blueberries

Cranguyma Farms

We then spent five nights in Long Beach, WA at the Lamp Camp. It was a small RV park/campground that was a short walk from the beach. During these five days here are some of the highlights (20Aug-24Aug)

  • Visited Astoria, Oregon twice. Caught the farmers market, tried Sleeper Coffee, walked around downtown, and went to see the TMNT movie at Colombian Theater.

  • Hiked Cape Disappoint State Park (WA), hitting both lighthouses in the park. It was also an old military base so we got to see some of the old military structures.

  • Fort Steven's state park (OR) where we checked out Wreck of Peter Iredale.

  • Enjoyed being by the ocean for beach walks and nice cool days.

We then headed down the Oregon coast stopping at Cannon Beach and checking out Haystack Rock before chilling at Arcadia Beach State Park Recreation Site. We spent the night at rest stop as we were heading into Portland the following morning (25Aug).

In Portland we hit a few places before it got to hot and we headed out back to the coast to spend night at Blue Heron French Cheese Company (Harvest Host) (26Aug):

  • Deadstock Coffee Roaster

  • Saturday Market

  • Powell Bookstore

  • Salt & Straw for some ice cream

The next day (27Aug) we visited Tillamook Creamery, taking the self guided tour and of course getting some cheese to enjoy. We then headed to Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint, taking a tour of the lighthouse and checking out Octopus Tree. We then drove to Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint to spend the night. We got to see both harbor seals and gray whales from this spot!

After a day of chores (28Aug) we stopped at Siuslaw National Forest to check out Thor's Well as well as a number of other smaller coastal features (29Aug). We stayed around until high tide to get the best views of these features, which were all really cool. We then headed to Sunset Bay State Park Campground, right down the road from Simpson Reef Overlook & Cape Arago. Here we got to see hundreds of seals and sea lions! Since it was so cool to see all of the seals and sea lions we of course went back the next morning to check them out again. We then headed out down the coast stopping at Arch Rock & Natural Bridgest at Arch Rock State Park. We then headed to Harris State Park, our last coastal stop in Oregon, for the night (30Aug).

We loved driving down the coast and seeing all the cool rock formations and sea creatures in Oregon. Next up will be posts on Redwoods National & State Parks and Lassen Volcanic National Park.
