Olympic National Park

Gabby

Saturday (05Aug2023) we headed to Tacoma to meet up with my cousin Dennis and his wife Maria. We chilled with them and checked out Narrow’s Brewery which had views of the water and the Narrow’s bridge. Sunday (06Aug2023) we headed out and towards Olympic National Park stopping in Olympic National Forest Seal Rock Campground for the night. This was a cool campground, right on the Dabolo Bay and we even spotted a seal swimming during our evening walk on the beach.

Sunday (06Aug2023) we headed into Olympic National Park, the portion near Port Angeles. We secured a camp spot in Heart O’the Hill Campground and setup camp. Over the next several days (06Aug-10Aug) we explored the area around Port Angeles. Highlights include:

  • Hiked Heart O’the Hills Forest Trail, Marymere Falls, Barnes Creek, Hurricane Hill, & Spruce Railroad Trails

  • Checked out Port Angeles’ downtown area

  • Enjoyed chilling at Crescent Lake

The highlight of this area was probably our hike to Hurricane Hill. The drive up on Hurricane Ridge was foggy, but it broke as we got to the top of road. It made for a very cool hike as we were above the fog and got some cool views of it sitting in the valleys. We also had the trail almost to ourselves and spotted marmots, bald eagles, a grouse, and got to watch a male black tail deer basically chill in front of us as he ate.

Friday and Saturday (11Aug-12Aug2023) we spent on the coastal side of the park, staying at Mora Campground. During this time we enjoyed sunset & meteor shower at Rialto Beach, a morning hike at Second Beach in La Push, and sunrise hike to Hole-in-the-Wall formation at Rialto beach.

Sunday (13Aug2023) after our sunrise hike at Rialto beach we headed to Hoh Rain Forest campground and relaxed as it was way to hot to do any hiking. The next morning we got up early-ish to beat the heat and hiked the Hall of Moss Trail and some of the Hoh River Trail before heading back to the van.

Monday and Tuesday (14Aug-15Aug2023) we then headed out back to the coast to Kalaloch Beach campground. While back on the coast we walked Kalaloch Beach, checked out the Tree of Life, tide pooled at Beach Four and Ruby Beach.

Wednesday & Thursday (16-17Aug2023) we headed to Quinault Lake area hiking and staying in the National Forest but mostly just doing chores and relaxing. We are now headed down the Washington and Oregon Coast and I'm planning out the rest of our trip. Until next time!
