Montana Adventures

Gabby

After leaving Yellowstone we spent a couple of days in Bozeman, MT (18-19June) exploring the city and stocking back up. We did find a really awesome tea house (Steep Teahouse) and coffee shop (Ghost Town Coffee) while in town; both were excellent. We also tried local sandwich shop - the Pickle Barrel. We then heading to Missouri Headwaters State Park and Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park. We spent another couple nights (20-21June) in this area doing some hiking and taking a tour of the Lewis and Clark Caverns.

We then headed up to Missoula, MT (22June) for a day to get an oil change and explore the city some. We ended up running into a small makers market & concert on the river that had lots of food trucks. We stumbled upon an awesome Kombucha vendor (Nourishing Cultures) and then enjoyed the rivers views before calling it a night.

As the next big stop was Glacier National Park, we spent a few down days in Whitefish & Flathead National Forest Area. We checked out the city of Whitefish stopping at Vibrant Roots Organics (Jun Kombucha) and Sweet Peaks Ice Cream and then headed to our Harvest Host for the night - White Raven Winery (23Jun2023). The following day/night we just chilled at Johnny Point Campground in Flathead national Forest (24Jun2023).

On Sunday (25Jun2023) we headed into Glacier National Park, where we headed up to Bowman Lake on the upper west end of the park. At the lake we hiked the Bowman Lake Trail and then enjoyed sitting by the lake. On our way to our campground (Apgar) we stopped at Polebridge Mercantile and got a variety of bake goods which all turned out to be amazing. The Apgar Campground was peaceful and very pleasant, so we just relaxed at the campsite for the rest of the night.

Monday (26Jun2023) we drove the Going to the Sun Road, stopping along the way for Bird Woman Falls Overlook, Weeping Wall, & Jackson Glacier Overlook. Since most of the parking for hiking was full we headed to our campsite St. Mary's and chilled until later to hike. We hiked St. Mary and Virginia Falls around dinner time. There was still a good number of people on the trail but the views of the falls were well worth it.

Tuesday (27Jun2023) we headed to Many Glacier area and hiked the Grinnell Glacier Trail (up to the point the trail was closed). However the views were still amazing and we got to see three glaciers - Gem, Salamander, & Grinnell. As we were pooped after the hiking due we just relaxed the rest of the evening.

Wednesday (28Jun2023) we hiked the Iceberg Lake trail; though the hiking views were less impressive then Grinnell Glacier trail the Iceberg Lake at the end make it all worth it. We got to see a number of people do a polar plunge in the lake, we only got our feet in and it was cold! After relaxing and dinner we headed out to Fishercap Lake, on the way we got to see a grizzly from a spotting scope provided by a ranger. And then when we got to Fishercap lake we saw two moose!! Justin got some awesome pictures.

Thursday (29Jun2023) we headed to Two Medicine Lake where we just got our chairs and chilled down by the lake. We saw a bighorn sheep just wondering in the campsite while we walked down to the lake :). After dinner we did a hike to Aster Falls which was enjoyable but hot & lots of mosquitos.

Friday (30Jun2023) we decide to kayak on Two Medicine Lake. Though we didn’t see any wildlife it was enjoyable to see the park from another perspective. After lunch we headed back to the west side of Glacier and found a RV park to do some planning for Canada and some chores. We stayed for couple of nights and then we headed back up to east glacier before heading to Canada (01Jul-02Jul2023).
